The experience of growing up with dogs instilled a profound joy within us, which subsequently inspired our aspiration to own a canine companion of our own. After traveling through various vibrant cities across the globe, we made a deliberate decision to relocate to the picturesque countryside, commencing our journey in Waikato and subsequently in Canterbury, where we established our breeding kennel. Our journey with Leonbergers commenced in 2013 when we identified this breed as the most suitable to complement our lifestyle. A pivotal encounter with Lyn from Derbyshire Kennels served as the catalyst for our endeavor, resulting in the proud addition of our first Leonberger, Zeus, to our family. This was quickly followed by Ivo joining us. We subsequently became enthusiastic members of the New Zealand Leonberger Club and, following strategic planning, we made a significant investment in 2019 by acquiring a splendid 5-acre lifestyle block to establish our breeding kennel. Our quest for exceptional genetics aimed at improving the breed within New Zealand necessitated international excursions. We have cultivated strong relationships with distinguished breeders and successfully imported Keeta from Andrea at Vanitza Kennels, who has been designated as our foundation bitch. This exciting chapter culminated in the establishment of Leonrua, reflecting our unwavering dedication and passion for this noble breed.
